Petersburg Police launch death investigation after shooting victim dies at the hospital

PETERSBURG — A woman who died in a hospital emergency room of a gunshot wound early Thursday morning is the city's 10th homicide of the year.

Kadesha Williams, 26, of Petersburg, was one of two shooting victims brought to the ER at Bon Secours Southside Medical Center shortly after 4 a.m. Thursday. Police said the victims drove themselves to the hospital.

By the time officers arrived at the hospital, Williams had died, Deputy Police Chief Emanuel Chambliss said. The other victim, a man, had suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Police have not released any details about where the victims were shot, or any motives or suspect information.

Last year at this time, Petersburg had recorded seven homicides. The eighth of 2021 occurred on July 1.
