Peter Crouch once sent 'embarrassing' sexy text to mother-in-law

Peter Crouch had a seriously awkward moment with his mother-in-law during the early days of his relationship with wife Abbey Clancy. A sexy text message meant for Clancy ended up in her mother's inbox by mistake.
The 43-year-old former footballer met model Clancy way back in 2005, but almost scuppered their relationship when he accidentally sexted her mum. Crouch explained all about his cock-up on a recent episode of the couple's podcast The Therapy Crouch
"Do you remember when I sent your mum a sexual message? That was horrendous," said Crouch. "The beaver emoji sent straight to her mum, that was highly embarrassing, wasn’t it?"
Crouch explained that the faux pas happened during the early stages of their relationship, making it even more excruciating. Clancy joked that the message was actually "a Freudian slip".
Crouch said: "No, obviously, I meant to text you, but I texted your mum. I’m not trying it on with your mum, not at any point. Let’s move on."
Fortunately, it seems Clancy's mother saw the funny side of the situation and it didn't put a spanner in the works of the relationship. The couple got married in 2011 and now have four children — two sons and two daughters.
On another episode of the podcast, Clancy explained that it was actually her father who had concerns about her dating Crouch, who was playing for Liverpool and England when the couple got together.
Clancy said: "My dad is the biggest Liverpool fan on Earth, but I remember telling them when we had a few dates and he went ballistic. He was like: 'I can’t believe you are going out with a football player. It is such a bad look'."
The Therapy Crouch has been a podcast fixture since 2023, with Crouch and Clancy fielding relationship questions and offering advice to listeners.
Since retiring from football, Crouch has been a much-loved television and radio personality, including fronting a late-night variety show during the European Championship in 2021.
He also joined the judging panel on the second series of The Masked Dancer.
