Pete Prisco: Kam Chancellor most overrated NFL player

CBS NFL writer Pete Prisco’s absurd anti-Seahawks bias is showing again.

Whether it’s diminishing every accomplishment that Russell Wilson has ever done, or writing off Seattle at each turn, Prisco always seems to go out of his way to diss the only NFL team in the Pacific Northwest.

Yesterday he took things to a new low by calling strong safety Kam Chancellor the most overrated player in the NFL. Here’s an excerpt:

He’s a solid NFL safety, but his reputation would make you think he’s Ronnie Lott in his prime… Chancellor is a big hitter… but he has never been good in coverage and that was exposed even more last season.

We can’t argue that Kam Chancellor did not had an off-year in 2015. He was a step late in coverage, particularly against tight ends. He also missed far too many tackles.

That all being said, Prisco forgot the fact that Chancellor single-handedly saved two Seahawks wins by forcing turnovers in critical situations. Without his goal-line punch against Detroit, Seattle would have started the year 1-3 and almost certainly missed the playoffs. Without his strip of Adrian Peterson, Minnesota would never have had to send Blair Walsh out to kick in the first place.

Kam Chancellor probably should not have made the Pro Bowl or the NFL Top 100 list last year. However, calling him the league’s most overrated player is frankly ridiculous.

Prisco also took the opportunity to throw some more shade at Russell Wilson, who he named Seattle’s most overrated player last year. He now admits that Wilson is “very good” but has taken to calling Wilson’s fans a cult. This after a season in which Wilson led the NFL in passer rating and had a stronger second half than any other quarterback.

What’s this guy’s deal, anyway?

Maybe the Ronnie Lott reference in his Chancellor diss provides a clue. Perhaps Prisco is an embittered 49ers fan longing for a return to the glory days. Then again maybe he just doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

Kam Chancellor may be past his prime but he’s far from overrated and Russell Wilson will soon be recognized as this era’s best quarterback. Prisco either needs an attitude adjustment or a new pair of glasses.
