Person threatens American University student, police say

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Officials at American University said a “dangerous subject” was arrested on campus Saturday night for threatening a student.

An American University Police Department (AUPD) officer was approached by a student at 5:45 p.m. to report that someone pulled out a weapon and threatened her while they were on the campus shuttle bus. Witnesses on the bus confirmed the report.

The suspect began walking toward campus, and police initiated a lockdown. AUPD sent the following message to students, faculty and staff at 6:10 p.m.:

“Urgent AU Alert: Dangerous subject on or near campus. If outside, leave campus immediately. If inside, hide in a secure location, lock doors, avoid windows.”

MPD soon found the person and took them into custody and charged them with Felony Threats.

Officers did not find a weapon.

The campus lockdown was cleared shortly after.
