Police shoot, kill man allegedly armed with knife in Koreatown
The Los Angeles Police Department shot and killed a man in the Koreatown neighborhood of Los Angeles Thursday morning.
Though the Los Angeles Police Department initially said they found a gunshot victim at the scene in the 400 block of Gramercy Place, they later said the 40-year-old man who was shot had been reported to police has being in the middle of a mental health episode.
When officers arrived just before 11 a.m., “they were met by the suspect, described as a male in his 40s, who was armed with a knife. During that encounter, an officer involved shooting occurred and the suspect was struck by gunfire,” police said on X, formerly Twitter.
The man was declared dead at the scene, and his knife was taken into evidence, police said.
Aerial footage from Sky5 showed a large police presence in the area, and police said on X, formerly Twitter, that Gramercy Place was closed between 4th and 5th streets for the investigation.
No one else was wounded in the incident.
