Person found dead in Fairfield after SWAT standoff

A person was found dead Wednesday night in Fairfield after a standoff with a SWAT team, police said.

Officers were called to the Woodmont Court residence at 5:45 p.m. to conduct a welfare check, according to a press release from the Fairfield Police Department.

The release states officers were "immediately met with gunfire coming from the residence."

The SWAT team was called out and after a "brief standoff," officers entered the home and found the person dead, the department said.

No officers were shot, but one officer suffered minor injuries, police said.

The name of the deceased has not been released.
