Man fatally shot outside a North Carolina 7-Eleven, police say. Suspect arrested.

A man was fatally shot outside a 7-Eleven near the Cabarrus-Mecklenburg county line Wednesday morning, and a suspect has been arrested, Concord police said.

Officers found 38-year-old Michael Edward Pride Jr. of Huntersville dead of a gunshot wound outside the store, according to a Concord Police Department news release late Wednesday afternoon

Police were dispatched to the store at 11065 Ellenwood Road just before 8 a.m.

Officers arrested 23-year-old Huntersville resident Salverio Antonio Campagna and charged him with murder in connection with Pride’s killing.

Campagna was in the Cabarrus County Jail without bond Wednesday night.

Police haven’t said where they arrested Campagna or if he knew Pride. Police also haven’t said if they know what prompted the shooting.

“There is no threat to the public – all parties that were involved have been identified and are accounted for,” Concord spokeswoman Lindsay Manson said earlier Wednesday in an email to The Charlotte Observer.

Yellow crime scene tape blocked an area just beyond the gas pumps of the 7-Eleven, photos posted by news outlets on X, formerly known as Twitter, showed.

The 7 Eleven address is listed as being in Huntersville but is in the city of Concord limits, Manson said.

Shell casings were visible throughout the 7-Eleven parking lot, and witnesses said they heard multiple gunshots, Observer news partner WSOC reported.
