Person dies in two-car crash, fire in Northeast DC

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — DC Fire and EMS said a person died and another was injured in a two-car crash that happened in Northeast D.C. on Friday morning.

Officials were dispatched to a crash with entrapment at 6:50 a.m. on I-295 at Benning Rd. NE. DC Fire and EMS said one of the two cars involved in the crash caught on fire.

One person died at the scene and another was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

DC Fire and EMS said three other people were evaluated for minor injuries at the scene, but declined further medical treatment.

All travel lanes were blocked on Northbound 295 at Benning Rd. NE. Southbound traffic was diverted to New York Ave., DC Police Traffic announced on X, formerly Twitter.

Drivers were warned to expect delays.
