The Perk Downtown closing after 16 years

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Perk Downtown has long been a hub for college students studying for exams, writers finding their muse, and friends trading gossip, all while sipping on their favorite brew. Sadly, the owners of The Perk Downtown announced on their Facebook page on Tuesday, May 14, that they are closing after 16 years. Their last day will be Sunday, May 26.

According to the post, though the announcement to close may come across as sudden to the community, the business has been trying to get back on track since the pandemic. However, with the business climate remaining difficult, the owners decided it was time to retire.

Patrons are asked to support the wonderful baristas by dropping in and giving them a kind word, smile, and gratitude as they prepare to move forward with the next stage in their lives. A crowd funding campaign has been organized to help cover lost wages of employees and ease their transition, and all proceeds will go to the baristas employed at the Perk Downtown.

As of the time of this article, the campaign had raised $360 of the $12,000 goal.
