De Pere students placed on ‘instructional hold’ after call threatens safety of local schools, lockdowns lifted

DE PERE, Wis. (WFRV) – After the De Pere Police Department received a call that threatened the safety of area schools, students were put on an ‘instructional hold,’ the lockdowns have since been lifted.

A Facebook post from the De Pere PD states that the department got the threatening phone call on Friday morning. It was noted that the threats were directed toward local students, schools, and the police department, however, no specific school building was identified.

Officers immediately contacted the Unified School District of De Pere, the School District of West De Pere, and its GRACE Schools to inform them of the threat, requesting that students and staff remain in the school buildings.

Authorities say the lockdown requests were out of an abundance of caution while the threats were being investigated.

In our investigation, we were able to establish certain details of the call were not accurate. We provided an update to our schools, allowing them to return to their normal activities. We appreciate their assistance during this investigation, as we are deeply committed to the safety of our students and community. We plan to have additional officers near our schools for release today, again this is being done out of an abundance of caution.
