“Protein is one of the hardest types of food, the most needed food product, and the most scarce,” said Dave Kraft with the Blue Ridge Food Bank. “When we get a truckload of chicken, we have a network of 200 partners that we distribute protein to and get into the hands of people who need it.”

According to the food bank, approximately one in 12 people living in the Blue Ridge Area is experiencing hunger. Especially with Leap Year, Feeding America and Perdue are supporting those who need to fill the extra day food gap.

This is a part of Perdue’s largest-ever national protein donation of 3.3 million pounds of chicken. This will provide 2.75 million meals in high-need communities across the country.
