Pandemic fatigue

Pandemic fatigue continues.

Global use of at least one COVID shot was robust.

But pandemic fatigue is fueling vaccine hesitancy across the world now, and experts say that will impact global health.

Nature Medicine reports on a survey of nearly 25,000 people in 23 countries, which they say points to the need for better communication strategies surrounding health and vaccines to protect people and prevent misinformation.

Diabetes treatment

Vitamin D is a powerful tool for cancer prevention.

National Cancer Insitute researchers found it alters gut bacteria to give better cancer immunity.

In mouse models, those given a diet rich in vitamin D had better immune resistance to experimentally transplanted cancers.

The vitamin enhanced epithelial cells in the intestine to produce good bacteria to suppress tumor growth.

This study builds on prior research showing a link between vitamin D deficiency and cancer risk in humans.

Universal blood donation

Cancer impacts dogs differently depending on breed and size.

A University of California-Riverside study reveals that medium-sized dogs are at a higher risk of developing cancer than large and small breeds.

The smallest dogs, Pomeranians, Shih Tzus, and Chihuahuas, have a 10% chance of dying from cancer.

Great Danes have the least cancer.

Flat-coated retrievers had the highest mortality from cancer and were most likely to be diagnosed with sarcoma.
