People think this high school sophomore looks like a 40-year-old man

Though his name came to prominence nearly 20 years ago, Danny Almonte remains a figure many sports fans still remember. The pitcher took the Little League World Series by storm in 2001, dominating all his opponents like they were three years younger than him.

Well, they were. Turns out Almonte was much older than he said he was, and the sports world was hit with one of its most infamous age-related scandals.

We’re not saying that’s what going on with Cheick Traore of Concord 1st Assembly high school in North Carolina, but a lot of people on social media have questions after a picture of him emerged Monday.

Traore is listed as a sophomore at the high school, but highly unqualified non-professionals believe he has to be 40.

Here’s just a small sampling of responses from people who aren’t buying it:

Keep in mind, these are just random people on Twitter. Well, and Bomani Jones. But it’s important to note that no one who is in charge of these types of things believes Traore is lying about his age. It’s just speculation based on that picture … which does make him look significantly older than a high school athlete.

There’s probably nothing too scandalous to see here. Plenty of amateur athletes look much older than their age.

But if Traore starts lecturing his classmates about the importance of lawn care or starts using a pair of cheaters to read the small print on a biology test, that’s when we would start asking questions.
