People receive community meals at St. James
Nov. 23—Those who were unable to share Thanksgiving with family had a special spot this year.
St. James Catholic church held a special event open to everyone in the area.
Celebrants gathered inside the church and shared a meal prepared by Doug Hemke and his family. Hemke said he wants everyone to enjoy a meal with others on the special day.
"I'm thankful to be alive, I'm just thankful to be alive with my friend Marty, with my family, with my grandchildren and with all the people at St. James and the people that joined us today," Hemke said. "It is such a privilege."
The church was full of guests eating the prepared food and desserts. The visitors left with full stomachs and a smile on their face.
