'People Are Going To Be Blown Away' By Nintendo Switch, Nvidia CEO Says
Nintendo will finally be revealing more information about the Nintendo Switch later this week as excitement around it increases each day. Today’s latest in the hype train is from Nvidia’s CEO Jen-Hsun Huang, who said that the upcoming console will blow people away.
At CES 2017, Nvidia unveiled the new iteration of the Shield TV which now supports new features like Google Assistant. Since Nvidia partnered with Nintendo on the Switch console, the Nvidia CEO was asked what were their limitations on what they could do with the gaming system and if it would fit in with what they’ve done with the Shield TV.
“Nintendo Switch is a game console. It’s very Nintendo. The whole experience is going to be very Nintendo,” Huang told VentureBeat. He then commented on how the Japanese gaming firm is “singularly focused” in creating an amazing gaming experience for children and how that’s admirable. “When you guys all see Switch, I believe people are going to be blown away, quite frankly,” he continued. “It’s really delightful. But it has nothing to do with AI.”
It was previously reported that the Nintendo Switch will be powered by Nvidia’s Tegra system-on-chip (SoC) using ARM architecture, the same tech used on the chips inside smartphones and tablets. This may also mean that the Switch might not be as powerful as the PlayStation 4 or the Xbox One, with a report claiming that it might only be able to push 1 teraflop of performance, according to GameSpot.
The full spec sheet of the Nintendo Switch hasn’t been confirmed by Nintendo yet. The company has scheduled a special livestream event on Jan. 12 where the Switch’s release date, launch titles and specs will all be confirmed. “The Legend of Zelda: breath of the Wild” is expected to be one of the first games available for the console.
