Pensacola Salvation Army to celebrate National Salvation Army Week

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — The Salvation Army in Pensacola is celebrating National Salvation Army Week, a week to “honor the work and ministry of the Salvation Army in Pensacola,” by “hosting a few events around town,” according to a release.

National Salvation Army Week happens from May 13-19 as declared by the United States Congress in 1954.

“National Salvation Army Week presents a wonderful opportunity for us to let the community know more about the work of The Salvation Army in Pensacola,” said Captain Stephan Wildish. “We want to recognize and celebrate the donors, partners, supporters, and volunteers who make the ministry of the Army possible. We invite everyone to join us as we celebrate National Salvation Army Week.”

The Pensacola-based Salvation Army is planning to celebrate by hosting events around town, the release said.

  • Tuesday, May 14: The Salvation Army Canteen will be at the Santa Rosa Emergency Operations Center serving coffee and donuts from 8:30 through 9:30 a.m.

  • Wednesday, May 15: The Salvation Army will celebrate the opening of the outdoor pickleball court with the Kiwanis Club of Big Lagoon at 3:30 p.m.

  • Thursday, May 16: The Salvation Army Canteen will be at the Escambia County Emergency Operations Center serving coffee and donuts from 8:30 through 9:30 a.m.

Although the Salvation Army of Pensacola is hosting the above events, the release notes “Everyone can get involved with National Salvation Army Week.”

Donations received at the following locations will help the Salvation Army to sponsor 30 or more children in need for a week at summer camp, according to the release:

  • Salvation Army’s Office located off of N. Q Street

  • AJ’s Market & Ice Cream in downtown Pensacola

  • Costello’s Butcher Shop and Deli off West Fairfield in Pensacola
