Pennsylvania State Trooper injured after 120 MPH chase in York County; one arrested

YORK COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM)– A driver was arrested after a high-speed chase during rush hour in York County where a Pennsylvania State Police Trooper was injured.

Richard Otchere, 27, of York, is accused of leading Troopers on a more than 12 mile chase on I-83 that reached speeds over 120 mph on Friday, March 22, State Police in York County said in the charges filed.

Breaking News

The pursuit began around 5:15 p.m. on I-83 after a Trooper observed a 2015 black BMW commit traffic violations. According to the criminal complaint, the vehicle’s registration did not match and the driver was swerving. When the Trooper turned on his emergency lights, the BMW fled.

During the chase, Otchere allegedly passed multiple cars, almost crashed into multiple vehicles and swerved in and out of oncoming traffic, according to the complaint.

State Police say that they had to perform a “precision immobilization technique,” on his vehicle. The BMW crashed into a Trooper’s vehicle and State Police say they had to forcefully remove Otchere from his car to arrest him. One Trooper suffered a dislocated shoulder during the incident.

State Police stated in the complaint that there was a strong odor of marijuana coming from the BMW and Otchere had bloodshot eyes and could not comprehend the chase that just happened. He said to Troopers “what are you pulling me over for” the complaint reads.

When Troopers searched the vehicle they found 21 marijuana “roaches” and two separate bags filled with marijuana, according to the complaint.

Otchere faces more than two dozen charges including felony fleeing or attempting to elude an officer.

Otchere is out of prison after he posted his cash bail on Sunday which was set at $100,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 5.
