Police make arrest in road-rage shooting on Interstate 90 in Pennsylvania

Authorities in Pennsylvania and New York ended their search for a suspect in a road-rage shooting on Interstate 90 with the arrest of a Florida motorist on Wednesday.

The shooting, which police said occurred on I-90 in Erie County in Pennsylvania at about 9 p.m. on Tuesday, sent the victim, a 42-year-old Detroit man, to a Buffalo hospital for treatment for a gunshot wound to the knee, police said.

Police said the wound was not life-threatening, and that the victim was shot while driving. Police did not identify the victim.

New York State Police arrested Ervin B. Stubbs, 34, of Ocala, Florida, on charges of criminal possession of a weapon and fugitive from justice related to the Pennsylvania State Police's pursuit, New York State Police said in a news release.

Pennsylvania State Police on Wednesday charged Stubbs with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, firearms not to be carried without a license and three other counts, according to court records. Stubbs is to be extradited to Pennsylvania to face those charges, police said.

Police accused Stubbs of shooting the victim while Stubbs was driving a truck on I-90, New York State Police said. Police said investigators determined the shooting happened in Pennsylvania, but did not provide a specific location in Erie County. The charges against Stubbs in Pennsylvania were filed with the office of District Judge Scott Hammer, of North East in eastern Erie County.

Stubbs was found with a 9 mm Ruger handgun when he was located at a truck stop in Pembroke, New York, between Buffalo to the west and Batavia to the east, police said. Police said the investigation started when the victim exited I-90 in Fredonia, New York, and called 911.

Pennsylvania State Police Troop E in Lawrence Park Township learned of the shooting at about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday when the New York State Police reported the incident, Troop E commander Capt. Kirk Reese said.
