Penn State student dead after being hit by driver while jogging, State College police say

A Penn State student jogging Tuesday along the University Park campus died when she was hit by a driver, State College police wrote in a statement Wednesday.

The driver — a 20-year-old Penn State student whom police did not identify further — was heading westbound about 8 p.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of East Park Avenue, borough police wrote.

The driver crossed through oncoming traffic, left the road and struck a 25-year-old woman jogging on the south sidewalk, police wrote. She was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center before being transferred to UPMC Altoona, police wrote.

University spokesman Wyatt DuBois identified her as Lovisa Arnesson-Cronhamre, a doctoral student from Sweden who was studying architectural engineering.

Student Affairs has been in touch with her family and friends and is providing support, DuBois wrote in an email. Students may contact Counseling and Psychological Services at 814-863-0395.

They may also contact Student Care and Advocacy at 814-863-2020 or StudentCare@psu.edu. International student advisers are available for assistance by scheduling an appointment in the university’s Starfish system.

“We are heartbroken over the tragic loss of Lovisa Arnesson-Cronhamre, and we send our deepest condolences to her family and loved ones,” DuBois wrote.

Neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to be a factor, police wrote. The department did not indicate if speed or fatigue is believed to be a factor. A description of the vehicle was not provided. An investigation is ongoing.

Those who witnessed the crash, recorded video or other relevant information may call police at 814-234-7150, email police@statecollegepa.us or submit an anonymous tip online.
