Peninsula crash results in car fire; possible OUI

Mar. 22—TRAVERSE CITY — A driver who crashed his car into a power pole at the base of Old Mission Peninsula has been arrested, according to the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office.

The 37-year-old Clarksville, Tennessee man sustained minor injuries and was taken to Munson Medical Center for treatment and a blood draw before he was taken to jail, Capt. Chris Clark said.

The crash was reported at 8:07 p.m. on Thursday in the 7000 block of Peninsula Drive. Clark said the Tennessee man had driven into a nearby power pole causing a small fire under the car and both lanes of traffic to be closed for an extended period of time.

After receiving treatment at Munson for unknown injuries, the sheriff's office said the man was transported to the Grand Traverse County Jail on suspicion of drunk driving to await his arraignment.

Initial investigations show that alcohol might have been a factor in the crash, which led to the search warrant for his blood test, according to the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office.

The results of that test were not entered into the police report as of Friday morning.
