Pendleton officer expected to recover after Tuesday's shooting

May 8—ANDERSON — A Pendleton police officer has been released from the hospital and is expected to recover after Tuesday's shooting near the Get-Go convenience store on Broadway Street.

The shooting occurred about 1:30 p.m. after the officer had detained a female suspect driving a black sedan. The male passenger then shot at the officer from inside the vehicle.

The passenger and the officer exchanged gunfire until the passenger exited the vehicle and fell to the ground. The 44-year-old man was sent to an Indianapolis hospital and remains in serious condition.

Tim Funk, a bystander at the scene, said the passenger was shot in the head, and the officer was shot in the shoulder.

Officers from all over the county scoured the scene looking for evidence. Those at the scene could see blood spatter and vacant shoes near the black sedan as well as a gun and magazine.
