A suspect in connection with a shooting in Atkinson was arrested and charged.

Deputies from the Pender County Sheriff's Office arrested a suspect in connection with a March 12 shooting at a gym in Atkinson.

Tyron Markel Allen, 22, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill/inflicting serious injury and assault by pointing a gun.

According to previous reports, the incident occurred during a youth basketball session at the Atkinson Gymnasium around 5 p.m. Middle and high school students were present. A victim was sent to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment.

An investigation began after the incident, which included a search for Allen. He is being held at the Pender County Sheriff's Office with no bond for the charges.
