Pelosi: 75 GOP House Seats in Play

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said that as many as 75 Republican seats may be in play, as leaders from both parties expressed confidence on Sunday about this year’s elections and the prospect of winning the majority.

“What [Boehner] did say that was correct was that there are about 50 Republican seats in play. I would say 75,” Pelosi said, referring to House Speaker John Boehner, on ABC’s This Week. “I feel pretty good about where we are.”

Pelosi, D-Calif., who was speaker when the Democrats lost the House in 2010, wouldn't say if she wanted to re-take the gavel if Democrats were to regain control.

“I just want to come back with the Democrats in the majority. That's really what is important. So I'm very excited about the election and the opportunity it gives us to make the distinction. And I'm very proud that President Obama's the top of our ticket,” Pelosi said.

For his part, Boehner, R-Ohio, also said he was confident.

"I feel pretty good about where we are today,” he said on the same show. “My job as the leader is to make sure that if everything falls apart, that we still have the tools that we need to hold onto our majority in the House.”

Rep. Greg Walden, R-Ore., the National Republican Congressional Committee's second-in-command, said earlier this month that Democrats face a "slog for 40, not a drive for 25" seats.

Boehner said he was not afraid an anti-incumbent wave of voters would knock Republicans out of the majority. “As a matter of fact, I think most of our members are doing very well," he said. "But again, you never know what's gonna happen over the next six months. My job is to make sure our team is prepared."
