Driver arrested after returning to deadly hit-and-run crash on Sahara Ave.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A driver is facing a hit-and-run charge after he allegedly struck and killed a pedestrian, left the scene, and then returned after police arrived.

Angelo Pascua, 29, was arrested Tuesday morning, a few hours after the crash when he returned to the scene and identified himself as the driver, Las Vegas Metropolitan police said.

The crash was reported around 1:15 a.m. on Sahara Avenue, just east of Valley View Boulevard.

Police said Pascua told officers where they could find the Nissan 370Z. He was taken into custody and booked into the Clark County Detention Center.

The pedestrian, identified by the Clark County coroner’s office as 34-year-old Lavan Canada, was pronounced dead at the scene, was crossing the eastbound lanes on Sahara — outside of a marked crosswalk — and was struck by the front of the Nissan 370Z, police said.

Sahara was closed to traffic until nearly 6 a.m. due to debris on the road.

Pascua is scheduled for an initial appearance in Las Vegas Justice Court on Wednesday, March 13.

The pedestrian’s death is the 38th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction for 2024.
