Pedestrian killed near Dillon was hit by 3 vehicles, trooper say

DILLON COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A pedestrian is dead after being hit by three vehicles Wednesday night near Dillon, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The incident happened at about 11:30 p.m. on Highway 301 near Coates Street. Troopers said all three vehicles were traveling north when they hit the person who was in the road. None of the drivers was hurt.

No additional information was available at this time. The highway patrol is investigating.

U.S. federal regulators have requested more information from Zoox, Amazon’s self-driving unit, as part of an investigation into rear-end crash risks posed by unexpected braking. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened a preliminary investigation into Zoox on May 10 after it received two reports of Zoox vehicles unexpectedly braking, leading to rear-end collisions with motorcyclists that resulted in minor injuries.
