Pedestrian dies after being struck by multiple vehicles on Highway 99 in Stockton

A pedestrian was killed after getting hit by multiple vehicles, including a tractor-trailer, early Friday morning in Stockton.

The collision was reported at 4:23 a.m. on southbound Highway 99 near the Cherokee Road on-ramp, according to California Highway Patrol.

A man was walking in the roadway when he was hit by the big rig, which was traveling around 50 mph, CHP said. He was hit by additional vehicles as the big rig pulled over.

CHP closed all southbound Highway 99 lanes while authorities investigated the cause of the crash. All lanes were fully reopened by 11 a.m.

The big rig driver was not injured and was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash, CHP said. It's unclear if the pedestrian was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. It's also unclear why the pedestrian was walking in the roadway.
