Pedestrian, 85, struck and killed by SUV in Spring Lake Heights, prosecutor says

SPRING LAKE HEIGHTS — Authorities are investigating the death of a woman who was struck and killed Saturday while crossing Allaire Road near Old Mill Road.

The 85-year-old woman, who officials did not identify, was crossing around 1:20 p.m. when she was struck by an SUV attempting to make a left turn, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago and Spring Lake Heights Police Department Chief Edward W. Gunnell said in a joint statement.

She was pronounced dead at 1:56 p.m., Santiago and Gunnell said.

The 70-year-old driver of the SUV, who was also not identified, remained at the scene of the crash, they said.
