Peaky Blinders Star Cillian Murphy Opens Fire In Explosive New Pictures From Season 4

In case you've been living under a rock, you'll know that the Peaky Blinders are BACK filming for series four, with Tom Hardy among the stars making a dramatic comeback as gangster Alfie Solomons.

And while Cillian Murphy has remained tight lipped about Tommy Shelby's post-prison storyline in the fourth instalment of the BBC drama, he's set to make an explosive return if these latest on-set photos are anything to go by...

The third series of Peaky Blinders climaxed with the criminal clan being thrown behind bars, including mob boss Tommy, but in these latest on-set photos, "by order of the Peaky Blinders", the gangsters are clearly out of prison and running the streets once again.

Despite the series being set in Birmingham, the new episodes are currently being filmed in Toxteth, Liverpool and central Manchester's Northern Quarter.

Murphy previously addressed Tommy's future relationship with his family, saying: "I think his family think that he's betrayed them, and it will be up to Tommy to demonstrate to them that he hasn't betrayed them, and that he has a bigger plan.

"The question is what that bigger plan is. Who is he going to call? What's going to happen to the family? Can he ever get that level of trust or love back again?"

He added: "I think he will never stop. Because of what happened to him in the First World War, I think it's never going to stop. He'll just always be this man searching for something.

"I think that even if he achieved all this material wealth and he achieves some sort of position of power... I don't see him retiring with a pipe and slippers, that's for sure."

Series creator Steven Knight confirmed back in January that filming on the fourth series of the gritty BBC thriller was imminent.

"I'm very, very excited because I'm just completing [writing] episode six of series four, which again I think is the best yet," he said. "I'm loving it and it's not like work, it's not like a labour.

"I love doing it, and the boys are coming back and they're loving the scripts, and we start shooting in March."

Knight also insisted that Tom Hardy will be back on the show as gangster Alfie Solomons, who first appeared in the second series.

"Of course [he'll be back] – we can't do it without Alfie," he said.

Peaky Blinders focuses on a ruthless gang run by Murphy's character Thomas Shelby in post-World War I Birmingham, who sewed razor blades into their flat caps (hence the name).

Expect some high-profile new additions in series four, too. Adrien Brody – yes, actual Oscar winner Adrien Brody – will join the showin a part written especially for him, with Aiden Gillen (Littlefinger from Game of Thrones) also on board.

A premiere date for Peaky Blinders series four is yet to be confirmed, but we're probably going to have to wait until late 2017.
