Peace Church Cemetery offering guided veterans tour this Memorial Day weekend

JOPLIN, Mo. — If you’re looking for a different way to honor the past this Memorial Day weekend, a local cemetery might fit the bill.

Peace Church Cemetery north of Joplin is offering a veterans tour. It will highlight the history of 10 military veterans buried at Peace Church. That includes those who served in the Civil War, Spanish-American War, World War I, and World War II. Organizers say the project is a way to honor past service.

“We just think – because this is Memorial Day weekend and we not only put flowers on our families’ graves, but we want to put flowers on our veterans’ graves. Salute them for the service they provided for us,” said Jim Beeler, Peace Church Cemetery Assoc. Dir.

The veterans tour kicks off Saturday at 10:45 at Peace Church Cemetery. There is a suggested donation of $12, with proceeds going to support cemetery upkeep.
