New PDX terminal announces opening date following delay due to safety concerns
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The new Portland International Airport terminal, which is part of the airport’s $2 billion remodel, is now set to open in August after a three-month delay, the Port of Portland announced.
In February, the opening of the new terminal was delayed by three months after a couple of “close calls” at the construction site. These “close calls” included a worker dropping a pipe wrench, which landed behind a ticket counter, and a bucket falling from a platform and spilling debris through a bathroom ceiling, Port of Portland spokesperson Allison Ferre told KOIN 6 News.
“The three-month delay gives the crew breathing room to keep the 950 folks on the job working safely — our main priority,” Ferre said. “And make the spaces as PDX-y as can be when it opens to travelers later this summer.”
