PBSO: Early-morning crash near PBIA kills woman walking across Southern Boulevard

WEST PALM BEACH — A unidentified woman died Tuesday morning after being struck by a vehicle near Palm Beach International Airport.

Investigators say the crash happened just after 5:30 a.m. at the intersection of Southern Boulevard and Kirk Road. The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office was still attempting to identify the woman and notify her family as of Tuesday afternoon.

According to a sheriff's crash report, the pedestrian was walking across the westbound lanes of Southern when a 1999 Acura sedan struck her.

The woman went onto the hood of the vehicle and struck the windshield before landing on the roadway. The vehicle traveled a short distance before coming to a stop in the center median. The woman died at the scene.

PBSO identified the Acura's driver as a 36-year-old Lake Worth Beach man. The driver and his passenger were not injured, the sheriff's office said.

The crash report did not indicate whether any charges were pending against the driver of the Acura.
