Officers responded on April 3 to a report of a stabbing and found the victim at his front door where he had crawled to open the door, the police report said. He told officers that he and Hellman had been feuding and got into an argument.

During the argument, the man told officers that Hellman chopped at him with the machete, cutting off two toes on his left foot while he was in a “defensive position holding his left leg and arms up in hopes to deflect the suspect’s swimming machete,” the report said.

After the attack, the victim told officers that Hellman went into the kitchen and started throwing plates and bowls at him before leaving the residence, the report said. The victim was taken to the hospital by EMS.
