Paul Hayward leads triumphant night for Telegraph at Sports Journalism Awards

Paul Hayward was crowned Sports Writer of the Year for the second year running as The Telegraph scooped four honours at the Sports Journalism Awards on Monday night. 

The Telegraph's Investigations Team won the Investigative Reporter category with its Football for Sale expose which led to the departure of England manager Sam Allardyce and the story was also highly commended in the Scoop of the Year award.

Oliver Brown was crowned Sports Feature Writer of the Year for his brilliant profile of Eddie Jones, revealing interview with Rory McIlroy and for tracing Usain Bolt's roots in Jamaica. Hayward, The Telegraph's Chief Sports Writer, was highly commended in this category.

Sam Dean won the Young Sports Writer of the Year award, in part for his excellent work around the Wimbledon poisoning plot and investigation into rogue agents.

Telegraph Sport also received four further high commendations: Jeremy Wilson in the Investigative Reporter category; Sam Wallace in the Football Writer award; Gareth A Davies for specialist correspondent and Telegraph Sport in the Multi-Media Sports Package category for our coverage of the Rio Olympics.

The Telegraph was the most successful of any media group on the night, having also received more nominations than any other.
