Patton Oswalt helped finish wife Michelle McNamara’s true-crime book after she died, and now a suspect in the case has been arrested

After Patton Oswalt‘s wife, writer Michelle McNamara, died in her sleep in 2016, he spent the better part of two years finishing her final book, I’ll Be Gone in the Dark. The book, which has been on the New York Times best-sellers list since it was released in February, traced the so-called “Golden State Killer,” who’s suspected of 12 killings, 45 rapes, and dozens of home burglaries between 1976 and 1986. On Wednesday, the New York Times and others reported that Joseph James DeAngelo, 72, had been arrested on a warrant from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department and booked on two counts of murder. The newspaper also reported that the arrest had been made “in connection with the case.”
