Pathways Day Center to re-open Wednesday

Nov. 13—Pathways Day Center, which provides programs and services for the homeless, will reopen at 8 a.m Wednesday, according to Sarah Chandler, Reach Services executive director.

Hours this week will be 8 to 4 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and 8 a.m. to noon Friday.

"We're so excited we can get this reopened, especially right before the holidays," she said.

The re-opening is being made possible by a $50,000 grant from the Wabash Valley Community Foundation as well as some private donations, she said.

"We'll continue to search for longevity funds" to support ongoing operational expenses, she said.

Pathways was forced to close in early October because of funding issues, and in particular, ongoing operational expenses including monthly mortgage and utilities.

Pathways has served as a hub for services and programs aimed at encouraging self-sufficiency among homeless and at-risk populations in the Wabash Valley.

The homeless are able to take showers, get mail, do laundry and use computers. They have access to resources for housing, employment, agency referrals and education.

Pathways also has bedrooms and serves as a heating and cooling center in extreme weather conditions.

It is located at 504 S. 15th St. and had a ribbon cutting in June 2022.
