A passion for good grades, sports, and community

WEST PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — She loves learning, exploring, and creating, that’s how many people describe Emma Stevens, a fifth grader at Wyoming Area Intermediate Center. She is also a straight-A student.

28/22 News Reporter Iyee Jagne had an opportunity to chat with the 11-year-old in this week’s Here’s to You Kid.

Emma is passionate about softball, helping others, and good grades.

“I help my teachers a lot like if they need to get something copied or if they need me to run down to the office, I like doing that for them because then it gives them extra time to teach and help the other students,” Emma explained.

Emma’s helping goes beyond the classroom, she also helps at her church.

“I help doing the food, the food pantry, and in the mornings, we sometimes help pass out the little pamphlets that we give out,” Emma added.

She is a representative for K Kids and was proud to be nominated for the group by her peers.

High school senior known as Miss Lake-Lehman

K Kids is a teacher-organized Kiwanis club that is new this year for fifth and sixth graders.

The group recently wrote out Valentine’s Day cards for seniors in Exeter and sold lollipops as a fundraiser for a kindergartner who had to undergo brain surgery

“Feel like they trusted me to help the community and stuff,” Emma continued.

She also hopes to serve as a role model for her peers.

“I hope they’re inspired by me so they can eventually do what I do,” Emma stated.

When she grows up Emma wants to continue helping others.

“I really wanna be a teacher,” said Emma.

She also helps out with little league games, when she’s not on the field playing a game herself.
