Pasco motorcyclist killed after he stopped for fire truck and the driver behind him didn’t

A motorcyclist was killed in Pasco County on Tuesday night after he stopped for a fire truck and was hit by another driver who didn’t, the Florida Highway patrol reported.

The crash occurred on State Road 54 near Fencepost Drive just before 9 p.m. The motorcyclist, a 54-year-old man from New Port Richey, was heading west on State Road 54 when he “observed and yielded for an oncoming fire truck responding to a call for service,” according to a news release from the Florida Highway Patrol that was issued on Wednesday morning.

A 78-year-old New Port Richey man who was driving a Hyundai G80 “failed to stop and collided with the motorcyclist who suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash,” the news release states.

No other details, including the names of the people involved, were immediately released by the Highway Patrol.
