Parts of N.C. 12 to return to seasonal speed limits on Wednesday

MANTEO, N.C. (WAVY) — The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has announced N.C. 12 will return to seasonal speed limits starting on Wednesday in an effort to improve safety during the area’s peak travel season.

Crews with NCDOT will change speed limit signs along sections of N.C. 12 in Currituck and Dare counties starting May 15.

Areas in Rodanthe, Waves and Salvo, as well as places in Avon, Corolla and Frisco will have their speed lowered from 45 mph to 35 mph.

Other areas in the Outer Banks, including parts of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, will also see speed reductions during the peak visitor season.

According to NCDOT, off-season speed limits are expected to return Sept. 16.
