Be Part of Ride to Work Day This Monday
The 25th annual worldwide Ride to Work Day takes place this coming Monday (20 June 2016) and is expected to be the largest ever, according to the event’s organizers.
The goal of Ride to Work Day was originally to help bring greater visibility to the United States’ more than 8 million motorcycle and scooter riders but its message has since spread across the globe.
Another goal of Ride to Work Day is to demonstrate how viable motorcycles and scooters are as commuting transport. Across equal distances, commuting riders can reach their destinations more quickly — in up to 20 percent less time than those using automobiles in some situations, according to event organizers. Additionally, motorcycles and scooters consume less resources per person per mile, and take up less space on roads and in parking areas.
“Many people do not always appreciate the societally positive value of transportational riding, and some don't know there are also a few hidden deleterious ramifications from having almost everyone default to private autos,” said event founder and Aerostich founder Andy Goldfine. “Cars are wonderful machines, and we love them, but the reasons to ride, when one can, go beyond stuff like energy or carbon footprints.”
The Ride to Work organization says it hopes to see at least triple the number of motorcycling commuters on Monday. It says it hopes these numbers will result “increased public and government awareness of the societally positive benefits of utility riding.”
