‘We are part of the national story’: Box Elder Co. leaders gear up for busy Super Tuesday

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Republicans in Box Elder County are gearing up for a busy night.

There will be more than 50 neighborhood precincts meeting across the county, with the largest being held at Box Elder High School in Brigham City.

In-person registration happened today inside of the high school, but Republican county leaders said it is the online early registration that has them thinking turnout will be high.

Lisa Marble, Box Elder Republican Party Chair, said this is one of the first years they have had early online registration.

1,300 voters registered before tonight, with many more planning on registering in-person at their precinct.

To put this in perspective, during the 2020 presidential primary, more than 8,400 Republicans cast their votes in Box Elder County — this only being 54% of all registered republicans in the county.

If that primary reflects how republicans in Box Elder County are feeling during this caucus, former president Donald Trump is likely to secure the county.

In 2020, 90% of the county’s Republicans who cast their ballot voted in favor of Trump.

Republican county leaders said they are excited to have their caucus fall on Super Tuesday, because this is only the second time Utah has participated in Super Tuesday.

“We are part of the national story. Part of the national coverage. So, it’s way exciting to have this opportunity to vote today,” Marble said.

ABC4 will have Box Elder County’s caucus results tonight at 10.
