Parsons man arrested after firing shots in city, police say

PARSONS, Kan. — A Parsons man is arrested after allegedly firing a gun in town.

Officers with the Parsons Police Department responded to the 3600 block of Gabriel Ave. near the Prairie West Condominiums on Sunday after several callers reported the sound of gunfire.

When officers arrived Johnathan Banning-Norris, 21, approached them with his hands raised. Officers say Banning-Norris claimed he shot two people.

After a thorough search, investigators say they found shell casings and a 9mm pistol, but found no one suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers also searched Banning-Norris’ apartment and said they found no victims or anyone injured from the incident.

Prosecutors filed charges of criminal discharge of a firearm and unlawful discharge of a firearm in city limits against Banning-Norris. He bonded out later on Wednesday.

The investigation into the case remains ongoing.
