Parson’s 5th graders crowned champions in state contest

PARSONS, Kans. — In a display of knowledge and skill, Ivy Brimm’s fifth-grade class at Parson’s Guthridge School has secured the state champion title in the 5th-8th grade category of the IXL Sunflower State Sprint competition.

The contest, which ran from January 29 to February 23, challenged students across Kansas to see who could correctly answer the most questions and master subjects within the IXL platform.

IXL is a comprehensive online learning tool that supports students by reinforcing the curriculum taught in class across a multitude of subjects. Its widespread adoption across Kansas schools at all grade levels provides teachers with vital insights into students’ learning needs and strengths.

Despite being in second place at the midpoint of the competition, Brimm’s class made a remarkable comeback to secure the top spot. This victory marks the first year of the Kansas statewide IXL competition. However, academic competitions are a regular occurrence at Guthridge.

The winning class in each grade band, determined by the highest average number of questions answered per student, was awarded a $100 VISA gift card along with ICL merchandise for the classroom.
