Park closed due to storm damage

Feb. 22—GUILFORD COUNTY — Guilford Courthouse National Military Park is closed this week because extensive tree damage from recent ice storms made much of the park inaccessible.

Fallen trees blocked park entrances, parking lots, trails and the park's Auto Tour Road.

National Park Service work crews began clearing the downed and damaged trees within the park on Friday. The collaborative effort brought crew members from seven national parks and offices in six states to work with chainsaws along the roadway and trails to conduct the cleanup operation this week.

Park Superintendent James Hill said he expects the park to reopen by Friday.
