Park cancels Easter holiday event due to vandalism
An Easter event for families and children at a city park was forced to close early after it was vandalised.
Nene Park, in Peterborough, held an Easter Adventure Trail during the school holidays, and it had been due to run until 14 April.
But on Thursday night the trail, which involved going through woodland and finding wooden objects, props and eggs, was completely destroyed.
A spokesperson for Nene Park Trust said, the team was “very disappointed” and had to cancel the activity as it would require “a lot of money and time to sort out”.
This was the last weekend for the ticketed activity which started at the beginning of the Easter break.
The trust said it received “positive” feedback from families and the activity proved to be very popular, attracting 3,000 visitors.
Last weekend, the event had to be called off due to strong winds and bad weather conditions.
It said the senseless act of vandalism not only disappointed visitors but resulted “in a big loss of income to our charitable trust.”
Caroline Hartley, communications officer at Nene Park Trust said: “We try and do something nice and put in a lot of effort but then incidents like these are so disappointing.
“It’s a shame really that the activity which was running so successfully was ruined this way.”
The vandalism was discovered by a park ranger at 08:30BST on Friday morning, the trust said.
Cambridgeshire Police was notified and anyone with information should contact the force.
