Parents of Oxford, Michigan, school shooter sentenced to 10 to 15 years each for involuntary manslaughter.

James and Jennifer Crumbley, the parents of the Oxford, Michigan, school shooter, Ethan Crumbley, were sentenced on Tuesday to 10 to 15 years each for involuntary manslaughter.

“I believe that the following sentences would be in the best interest of justice and are reasonable and proportionate to the seriousness of the matter and the circumstances surrounding each defendant,” Judge Cheryl Matthews said during sentencing.

The parents have already served 858 days in jail while awaiting trial, which will be deducted from their sentence. They have also been instructed to have no contact with the families of the victims.

The trials were the first case of parents being held directly responsible over their role in a school shooting carried out by their child. They could have faced up to 15 years in prison for each count, but prosecutors asked for 10 to 15 years total for each parent, according to a sentencing memo filed last week.
