One day after being introduced as the Carolina Panthers’ head coach, Frank Reich is already adding to his offensive coaching staff.

Former Lions running back coach Duce Staley is expected to join the Panthers’ offensive coaching staff, according to a league source. Staley spent the past two seasons under Lions’ coach Dan Campbell as the team’s running back coach and assistant head coach.

It is unclear which specific job Staley will fill as Reich continues to put together his coaching staff. Staley and Reich coached two seasons together with the Eagles from 2016-2017, when Reich was the offensive coordinator.

The two won a Super Bowl together in 2017 when Staley coached the Eagles running backs. That season, Philadelphia averaged 132 rushing yards per game, third-best in the NFL. Staley joined the Lions in 2021 after spending a decade coaching the Eagles. Under Staley, the Lions ranked 11th in total rushing yards this season. Running back Jamaal Williams recorded his first 1,000-yard rushing season. His 17 rushing touchdowns were also a career high and led the league.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapport also reported on Wednesday that the Panthers requested permission to speak with Jaguars passing game coordinator Jim Bob Cooter for their offensive coordinator position.
