Panola County officials warn of warrant scam
PANOLA COUNTY, Texas (KETK) – The Panola County Sheriff’s Office said they’ve gotten a report of a scammer impersonating a captain with the sheriff’s office.

According to the sheriff’s office, the caller reported that the scammer used a restricted number and claimed to be “Captain David Jackson, Badge #9301” with the sheriff’s office. The caller was then reportedly told they had an outstanding arrest warrant for not attending federal jury duty.
“No law enforcement agency will initiate contact by phone regarding warrant information, nor will they seek payment via credit card, Venmo, CashApp or prepaid debit cards. Most of these scam calls rely on creating a sense of urgency to get the victim’s compliance, such as threatening immediate arrest or disconnection of utilities if payment isn’t sent immediately. Scammers will often use publicly available information such as the victim’s address to appear legitimate.”

The sheriff’s office said not to provide any financial information to suspicious callers and to report them to officials.
