Panel to study gun restrictions on mentally ill gets initial Colo. House OK
DENVER (AP) -- The Colorado House gave initial approval to study possible firearm restrictions on the mentally ill and those with substance abuse problems.
The House moved forward with the bill on an unrecorded voice vote Monday, with one more vote needed to send it to the Senate. The proposal creates a task force to look at what firearm restrictions, if any, are needed for those who suffer from mental illness and alcohol or drug abuse.
The measure was prompted by the case of the suspect in the Aurora movie theater massacre, who had been seeing a psychiatrist before the shootings.
