Palm Beach Town Council reappoints members to investment, recreation advisory boards

Two regular members on the town's Recreation Advisory Commission and two more on the Investment Advisory Committee were reappointed to their seats Tuesday by the Town Council.

Peter Harris and Susan Watts earned second terms as regular members of the recreation board following a vote of council members, while Kathleen Anderson earned a fifth term and Jacqueline de Sanctis earned a second terms as regular members of the investment board.

Harris, a management consultant with Mooring Partners, LLP, told the council he's proud of the work he and his colleagues have done to enhance recreational opportunities in the town, particularly with golf and tennis.

"We've made a number of recommendations in the last couple of years, which have been very busy," he said. "We've talked about pickleball. We tried to get four courts at Phipps, and we got two. I think eventually we'll get four. With the Par 3, we've made some nice changes down there. We've got a new putting green. We've got new parking spaces, and we're just about to renovate the maintenance facility, which is great."

"I'm deeply devoted to the Recreation Commission and to helping the community through sport and through enrichment programs that the Mandel Center offers to unify the community — to make it healthier community, a happier community, and a longer-lived community," she said.

The recreation board acts in an advisory capacity and makes recommendations to the town council on matters relating to town recreation programs and facilities. Preference is given to candidates who are enrolled or have their children enrolled in a recreation department program, or are regular participants or volunteers at a town recreation department facility.

The board is composed of seven members, each of whom serve three-year terms.

Anderson worked on Wall Street for nearly 40 years as a portfolio manager and analyst focused on income-producing securities.

She did not make a presentation Tuesday.

De Sanctis, a South End resident who spent 25 years in the investment management business, said she looked forward to continuing her work with the town's investment board.

"My appointment is up on Friday," she told council members. "It's our last meeting, and I've enjoyed my experience. I'd like to continue to remain involved with the town. It's an important mission for me."

The Investment Advisory Committee acts in an advisory capacity and makes recommendations to the town council in matters relating to the town’s investment policy and the investment of the town’s surplus funds. Members are appointed based on their prior fixed income investment experience.

The committee is composed of five members. Term lengths vary.

"We are just overjoyed by the quality of the people that are applying for our commissions," Council President Bobbie Lindsay said Tuesday.
