Palisade Historical Society to hold history talk on newspapers

PALISADE, Colo. (KREX) — The Palisade Historical Society is hosting a special event called Reading Yesterday’s News Online Today. This event, led by Leigh Jeremias, will explore how historical newspapers can tell us about the people, places and events of the past. Specifically, it will highlight the Colorado Historic Newspapers Collection, which contains over 4 million pages of historic news, including 3,753 issues of The Palisade Tribune.

Leigh Jeremias, a digital collections senior consultant at the Colorado State Library, will explain how to navigate the website, share tips for effective searching and discuss the digitization process. The event is open to the public and will take place at The Ordinary Fellow Winery on May 9 at 6 p.m. Attendees can enjoy learning about Palisade’s history while sipping wine.

For those interested in delving deeper into Palisade’s history, the Palisade History Museum is open four days a week, offering free admission and exhibits. The Palisade Historical Society has also published booklets on various topics such as coal mining, irrigation, railroads, fruit and wine. These resources are used in local schools and are available at the museum.
